Crow and cat get their own book

Dahlia’s Pet Detectives (Dalia si micii detectivi) will be in the spotlight at the end of next week (Thursday 31st May, Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd June) when my new book is launched at Bucuresti’s Bookfest (Romexpo).

It’s my third children’s book published by Booklet Fiction, and the second set in the village of Hay, which looks amazingly like Magura…

If you read Floss the lost puppy, you’ll recognise the village of Fân (Hay) where Dahlia and Chip are neighbours and schoolmates of Thea and Tudor Thimble. A completely new story, but set in the same Transylvanian village, high up in the Carpathian Mountains.

I have a Pinterest board devoted to pictures of cats like Onyx, and crows like Gossip. So you can see what Dahlia’s friends look like as you read their adventures…

I’ll be waiting to meet you on the Booklet Fiction stand on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at midday, ready to sign your copies. Come and say hello!

The last straw

16387958_1221176964602984_4997131151376956040_nRomania is on the streets protesting at their new Government of Thieves. It’s the biggest outcry from the people since 1989 and puts the country at a crisis point. Will the corrupt politicians win and drag Romania back into darkness, or will the people prevail and pull the country forward to a new, cleaner, straighter path?

You can read the background here to understand what’s happening this week, and here is an excellent blogpost with a very apt allegory.

Shakespear joins me in the limelight at Gaudeamus

stabilit_in_romania-c1-420x600I’m delighted to tell you that my compatriot, fellow writer Nigel Shakespear, is also launching his book at Gaudeamus on 19th November.

As you can see from the cover design, which has the same style as mine, Nigel’s book is part of Editura All’s new series revealing Romania through foreign eyes. Nigel’s book was originally published in English, as Times New Romanian (great title) and will now reach Romanian readers as Stabilit în România: unde orice e posibil, totul e imposibil si nimic nu e ceea ce pare a fi

Nigel’s launch is at 7pm (1900 hrs), so you’ll have plenty of time to buy your copies of my book and get me to sign them before Nigel’s event.

cover-spread

Din Liverpool în Carpati will be launched on Saturday 19 November at the Gaudeamus Book Fair in Bucharest. The time and date to be there is 1700 hrs (5pm) on Saturday, 19 November. Look for the Editura ALL stand on the ground floor – you should see this book cover, and me in my hat.

I’ll be there all day on Saturday, looking forward to meeting you and very happy to sign as many copies of the book as you like. Don’t forget – it’ll make a great Christmas present for anyone who loves Romania.
